Cookies and device storage
We only use cookies and device storage that the site and app need to work. There are no tracking, analytics or advertising cookies, so there is nothing to accept or turn off.

What cookies and device storage are
A cookie is a small file a website saves in your browser. Websites can also save information in your browser's own storage on your device. UK law lets us use both without asking, as long as they are strictly necessary for the service you have asked for. Everything below falls into that group.
What we use
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in cookie | Keeps you signed in to your family account on this device, so you don't have to sign in every time you open the chart | Up to a year, or until you sign out |
pp_google | Checks that a "Continue with Google" sign-in really started on our website | 10 minutes |
CF_Authorization | Set by Cloudflare when a family tester signs in to the preview of the app | Until the sign-in ends |
Cloudflare security cookies, such as __cf_bm | May be set by Cloudflare, which hosts the site, to tell people from harmful bots | Up to 30 minutes |
| Chart storage (IndexedDB) | Saves your family's chart on your device so it works offline | Until you delete it or clear the site's data |
| Small app notes (local storage) | Remembers little things, such as which trail finds have already been shown, whether we've offered surprises, and an activation code from a link while you sign in | Until you clear the site's data |
| Offline copy of the app | Keeps a copy of the app's files so it opens without the internet | Until it is updated or you clear the site's data |
Other websites
When you pay, you go to Stripe's checkout page, and when you choose "Continue with Google" you go to Google's sign-in page. Those pages are run by Stripe and Google, which set their own cookies, for example to prevent fraud. See Stripe's cookie policy and Google's cookie information.
Your choices
You can delete cookies and site data in your browser's settings. If you do, you'll be signed out and the chart will be removed from that device, so make sure you're signed in (your chart is then saved online too) or make a backup from the grown-ups' area first.
If we ever want to use a cookie that isn't strictly necessary, such as for counting visitors, we will ask you first and you'll be able to say no.
